Door Care & Maintenance Instructions
At Home Direct Kitchens, Bedrooms & Bathrooms, we want your new furniture to look beautiful and perform at its best for many years. Please follow the care and cleaning guidelines below to maintain the quality and finish of your kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom doors.
Cleaning Instructions
To clean your doors safely and effectively, we recommend the following:
-
Use a solution of 95% lukewarm water and no more than 5% mild soap.
-
Do not spray any cleaning solution directly onto the doors, including the mixture above.
-
Use a clean, damp (not wet) soft cloth to wipe the surface.
-
After cleaning, dry immediately with a clean, soft cloth.
-
For timber doors, always dry in the direction of the grain.
-
-
Any cooking marks, grease, or spillages should be wiped away immediately.
-
Avoid allowing liquids to seep into joints or edges, as this can cause swelling or damage.
-
Do Not Use the Following Products
The items listed below may permanently mark or damage the surface finish of your doors and should never be used:
-
Wax or silicone-based furniture polish
-
Bleach or chlorine-based cleaners
-
Abrasive cleaners or scouring pads
-
Solvents or alcohol-based products
-
Multi-purpose or ammonia-based cleaners
-
Any other harsh or chemical cleaning agents
Environmental & Heat Exposure Advice
Please note that localised or intense heat and steam can damage door surfaces and fascias.
To maintain their condition:
-
Avoid placing kettles, toasters, or similar appliances directly beneath or too close to kitchen fascias or wall units.
-
Doors should not be exposed to sudden or extreme temperature changes.
-
Vinyl-wrapped doors must not be exposed to temperatures above 70°C, as this can cause the surface to warp, peel, or discolour.
General Maintenance Tips
-
Always ensure good ventilation in your kitchen or bathroom to minimise exposure to heat and moisture.
-
Wipe down surfaces regularly to prevent build-up of dirt, grease, or steam residue.
-
Handle doors with care — avoid slamming or using excessive force on hinges or handles.
